Dear Galaxy,

I am trying to upload my RNA sequencing data onto the FTP server so that I can access them on Galaxy for analysis. I use Filezilla for the transfer. But every time I get the following error:

Status: Resolving address of usegalaxy.org Status: Connecting to 129.114.60.179:21... Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity Error: Could not connect to server

Is there some problem with the server at the moment? I used the same user email id and password that I use to login on Galaxy, so I can't imagine its a problem with the login details.

Could you help me with this problem?

Thanking you in advance, Anand

The connection works fine for me. Are you able to connect to a different FTP server? Were you able to connect to Galaxy FTP in the past? Also please try switching to 'passive mode' for the ftp connection.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I found the problem. It probably has to do with the internet settings at the hospital where I work. I'll try later from my home connection. Thanks a lot for the quick response and suggestions!

Hello,

Are you using an FTP client? Filezilla is one choice.

How to FTP

  • First, double check that the server name is usegalaxy.org. If you are working somewhere else, then use that server's URL. If a local, you must enable FTP first.
  • Second, double check your email/password. This is the same as you use to log into Galaxy. The account must be activated (confirmation email).
  • Full instructions here: https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Support#Get_Data:_Upload_tool_used_with_FTP

I also had no problems loading data (same as Martin). The server did take a while to connect, but after that transfer went fine, even for larger files.

Best, Jen, Galaxy team
