Question: Add username to galaxy.ini.sample file doesn't start admin

Hi, 

I have edited the galaxy.ini.sample file under admin_users and added my email address and restarted galaxy. But it won't recognize my user id.. why?

I get this error:

Mail is not configured for this Galaxy instance and password reset information cannot be sent. Please contact your local Galaxy administrator.

Instead of editing the .sample, you should create a regular galaxy.ini (by copying the sample), and then edit *that* file, and restart Galaxy.  The .samples should generally never be touched.

I have done this as well as per instructions on https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Admin/Interface. Now my file name is simply "galaxy.ini" and edited: admin_users= <email id> But the same result.

To confirm, you did actually register this user first, right?

I wasn't registered before, but I did after you directed me. I received Galaxy Account Activation in my mail, clicked a link for activating and it showed email activated. Restarted galaxy but the same issue that my user name is not recognized. I registered under this website : usegalaxy.org. Am I right to use this website?

Ahh, if you're running a local instance you need to register there as well.  Local instances do not share users with usegalaxy.org.
