Hi guys,

I am trying to upload some data via FTP (FileZilla) and the connection keeps dropping.  These are large files so they are taking a long time.  I have it set to send keep-alive commands and disabled timing outs on my end.  Is there anything else I can do? Do I have to restart the upload every time the connection drops.

Thank you!

Hi,

You can "resume transfer" with FileZilla. The bottom window in that application has the status of transfers. For those interrupted, first log back into the Galaxy server to establish the connection, then resume. This will pick up the transfer where it left off, instead of starting over from the start. Do this as soon as you can after the drop. FTP files remain in your "hold" directory for three days, so in theory you have that long to resume, but I haven't tried to resume a transfer after a few hours myself. If files are very large, also try loading one at a time.

If your own computer is still trying to sleep (or however this is configured, sometimes is a log out), double check the settings on a MAC under the far left apple menu -> "System Preferences" -> "Energy Saver" and "Screen Saver".

Good luck, Jen, Galaxy team
