Hello,

I have a username and password to use the Galaxy.org site. I am trying for the first time to upload data onto the Galaxy server using a ftp procedure, using FileZilla program.

For this, I used either my login name (admin action: email redacted for privacy) or my "public name" and my password, but I get an error message saying that I am entering the wrong username.

Here is the error message I get:

Hello,

I found your account at Galaxy main https://usegalaxy.org and it is active, the email you stated is valid, and FTP should work fine. Use your email and password with Filezilla (not your Galaxy "Public name").

Note that accounts are distinct between Galaxy servers.

  • Make sure you are targetting the correct server and that the registered account uses this exact email address (it is case-sensitive). I confirmed that for Galaxy main, but if working somewhere else, you can find this info under User > Preferences.
  • If the password for your account is not working at any particular server, double check it is the password actually set for that server. If needed, you can update your password.
  • Double check that the correct server URL is being entered. For Galaxy main, this is usegalaxy.org. For other servers, that have FTP upload enabled, use the base URL for that site.

If FTP still fails and you are working someplace other than https://usegalaxy.org, contact the administrators of that server directly for assistance.
