Hi Everybody,

I am unable to currently upload any files on the Galaxy using the FTTP client. Anyone else with the same problem?

Regards Andrei

I can reproduce the problem (using passive FTP). There was a server issue over the weekend. More feedback soon. Thanks for reporting the problem. Jen, Galaxy team

Sorry, but I am actually not getting (this time) any error message. The FTP just stops after few minutes of transfer.

Thanks for trying again so quickly! If it does come up again, please send the info along. It might be best to send this as a direct email to the galaxy-bugs@lists.galaxyproject.org mailing list. Include a link to this post if possible, so we can update the thread with the outcome after review. If anyone else reading this encounters the same issue, please do the same - we really would like to track this down - it is a relatively new problem (seen in the last month or so) and difficult to reproduce.

Concerning interrupted transfers, these are usually due to slower connections or intermittent connection issues. To continue the load where it left off (and avoid starting the transfer completely over), log into the Galaxy FTP service again and resume the transfer. This can be done whether loading line-command or with a client such as Filezilla. Try to resume as soon as possible after the transfer aborts. Hopefully, this will help you to move forward with your project with minimal additional set-up tasks.

I should note that if a transfer fails, the content of the loaded file could be a factor. If the data is compressed, it may be in a format that is corrupted or that uses a compression format that deviates from the expected. It is known that .gz data compressed on a PC, versus a UNIX-based OS, will sometimes trigger FTP upload problems. The solution for this case is to upload uncompressed files. I should also mention that .tar compression is not supported at this time.

Thanks again for the feedback and our apologies for the confusing connection issues! Jen

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for trying to resolve the issue. However, I have just tried to up-load again and I have the same problem. This seems to be an issue that happens every now and then. Let me know if you find the bug.

Best regards Andrei

Hello Andrei, We would like to track this down. Would you be able capture and paste in the error message you are getting? Thanks, Jen

Hi Jenny,

I am actually using FTP client called SyberDuck, which simillarly as FreeZilla logs on Galaxy. So the issue is somewhere between this FTP client and the interface on Galaxy ...at some point the client stops uploading and there is no chance to restart.

Yours Andrei
