Hi,

I'm trying to upload large data files via FTP using FileZilla. I am able to connect and upload files to FileZilla. I did configure galaxy and it gives the option to upload files via FTP. But when choose upload via FTP in local instance the data is not showing up.

Can someone help me to rectify this.

Thanks,

Hello,

Just to clarify, the FTP uploaded data in your local is not listed in the Upload tool? And you already confirmed within Filezilla that the data transfer was successful? (this is reported by Filezilla in the tabs near the bottom of the user interface). If I understood this incorrectly, please clarify a bit more.

These are the two most common solutions when this comes up, so please double check and let us know if you still have problems:

  • It may be that the server you FTP'd the data to was not your own local. Unless you custom configured the URL to be different, the "host" server name to target with Filezilla would be localhost:8080. Sometimes a public server is used as the target host by mistake.

  • Double check that the account (email address) that you used to load the data with Filezilla is the same exact account as you are using and logged into within Galaxy. Accounts are server-specific and FTP uploaded data is account-specific.

If this is your own local Galaxy, and you are the administrator and the only one who needs to load data or are loading data as an administrator for other users, data on the same file system is more effectively (and quickly) loaded into a Data Library directly, instead of using FTP/Upload. Once data is upload into a data library, there is just a single master copy, regardless of how many copies are later moved into histories for analysis. This can help avoid using up disk space on duplicate content.

Thanks! Jen, Galaxy team
