Hi Guys,

I have downloaded and set up a local instance of galaxy. It runs great. However when I try to load files larger than 2giga the software tells me to use the ftp which I did not get exactly how to do (I do not have any upload via FTP in the page that opens upon clicking on the tool "Upload data". I read one can upload large files using a new data library. If I do so I have no upload file as described in the galaxy video turorial. Can you help me on this please

Thanks

Do you have your own instance? Have you seen this page? https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/FTPUpload

Yes, but I can not see the section relative to ftp transfer in my "Get  data -> Uppload file " page......

You probably have not activated the FTP functionality in galaxy.ini. Galaxy needs to talk to an FTP Server.

Thanks! that could be a reason. I just saw the guide at https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Admin/Config/UploadviaFTP that looks very laborious actually. I would have expected loading large files would be easier in a so easy to use platform as galaxy. I am sure that there is a reason for that. I'll try to give it a try in a couple of days. Thanks for the help!

If you are an admin on your instance of Galaxy you can import large files from the filesystem without copying to Galaxy Data Library.

More info here: https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Admin/DataLibraries/UploadingLibraryFiles

You can also use the Data Libraries Beta interface for that once the admin upload is configured (using the link above)
