Hello, I've been having a problem with the main Galaxy server for several weeks now. I will start out at the beginning of the day able to use Galaxy perfectly normally but I seem to gradually lose my ability to access Galaxy. I'll get a few error messages about "Unable to Connect to Galaxy" but despite the error, there doesn't appear to be any actual problem. But over time things get worse. First, the history panel won't update unless manulally refreshed and the error messages about "Unable to Connect to Galaxy" become more frequent despite Galaxy seeming to be running mostly fine. Eventually, Galaxy becomes unusable. The "Unable to Connect to Galaxy" error message becomes almost non-stop... and then it goes away completely. At this point the history panel simply goes blank except for the title. For a while I'm able to look at things like my workflows and my list of saved histories and even load a history, although it won't actually fully load in the history window. Eventually things get even worse and the title disappears from the history window and I can no longer even bring up my list of histories - but strangely I can still do things like look at my account or look at my list of workflows.

This has been happening for weeks and it always seems to occur as a gradual decline in the connection. It's a bit intermittent - it doesn't happen every single time I use Galaxy. But it's gotten to the point that I know if I'm on Galaxy long enough I will eventually lose my connection and this is really hindering my ability to use the software. Has anyone else been having this issue?

Hello,

Some updates to the server occurred earlier today.

Please let us know if you (or anyone else reading this post) are still having this sort of problem now.

Thanks, Jen, Galaxy team

I was having the same problem with Galaxy when used in Firefox until just a few minutes ago, but Galaxy running in Chrome (which I usually don't run it in) has been working all day. This problem is intermittant and may come back but seems to be gone at the moment. Thanks for your interest. I will post more if it happens again.

We've been investigating some issues that could be related to this for the past week. Has it gotten any better in the last 2 days?

When it happens, could you open your browser's developer tools and note any error messages that appear in the console there?

I've had mixed results today. I normally run Galaxy in Firefox and it wasn't working at all there until just when I went to look in the developer tools as you suggested, at which point it decided to work again and there were no error messages that I observed. I was able to successfully run Galaxy in Chrome today, even as Firefox was refusing to load. I'd tried that in the past and normally switching to another browser didn't help, but this time it did. Could the problem be with my institute's network or even my own browser?

Thanks for your input.
