Hi, I am uploading files to Galaxy via FTP. The speed is only 30kb/sec. Is there something wrong with my operation? or is this just normal due to Galaxy's work load? Looking forward to your answers. Thanks Jiwen

Hello Jiwen, You would have to compare this with your regular transfer speed, but this does seem to be on the low side. Galaxy being busy could have some influence on transfers, but not at the level that you are reporting. I just ran a test using FileZilla and transferred a 56M file in a little over 2 minutes. My transfer speed varied between 280-460Kb/s and my side of the connection is known to not be particularly speedy on a Friday evening (http://www.speedtest.net/ is reporting ~ 5 mbps up). This is the protocol I am following, if you want to double check your methods (the wiki has Cyberduck, the screencast FileZilla): http://wiki.g2.bx.psu.edu/FTPUpload If you connection is simply slow, file compression would be a good choice (gzip or other, also on wiki above). If a transfer is interrupted when using a desktop client, simply reconnect and then resume the transfer (you don't need to start completely over). Hopefully this helps, Jen Galaxy team -- Jennifer Jackson http://galaxyproject.org
