A novice to galaxy and UNIX.

I installed a local version of galaxy on my new Mac following getgalaxy instruction. I copied galaxy.yml.sample to galaxy.yml, I changed admin_users to my email for admin right. After this I could work on this newly installed galaxy on my computer, downloading tools.

Then I changed host setting from http: 127.0.0.1:8080 to http: 0.0.0.0:8080 (cause this will give me more internet access I think).

Suddenly I am no longer be able to access to local host. So I returned my host to original state. Still not accessible to local galaxy.

Will be appreciate if someone can point what I have been doing wrong with?

Kevin

Did you restart Galaxy after changing the settings? If yes, check the error logs.

The config sample says:

Use ':8080' to listen on all available network interfaces.

So I think you shouldn't be adding the 0.0.0.0 part. Don't forget to restart, as Devon says.

Thank you both.

I actually tried with :8080 as well, which did not work. Restarting means to execute the following code, right? : sh run.sh I did it and then clicked the link - http://localhost:8080 - on get galaxy page. No connection.

"This will start up the Galaxy server on localhost and port 8080. Galaxy can then be accessed from a web browser at http://localhost:8080. After starting, Galaxy's server will print output to the terminal window.|"

I also tried with clouding service, which I also have a problem of launching, at the final step. I will write a separate inquiry on this.
