I am teaching a genomics course where we are using Galaxy. I created a very small file for the students to upload and work with (88kb fastq file). Today, when the students tried to upload the file (20 students), they experienced very long wait times. Is this normal when several people in one classroom try to upload files, even with such a small file size? They all have their own user accounts.

Hi, this is definitely not your fault. 20 students uploading small files have almost no effect on the performance of usegalaxy.org. The problems you are encountering are caused by site-wide issues we are having and hopefully will be remedied soon.

Thank you for your patience and for using Galaxy!

Hello,

Using the public Main Galaxy server at http://usegalaxy.org (or really any public Galaxy server) for teaching is not recommended. Instead, using your own Galaxy Cloudman server is a better choice. AWS offers grants in education to help cover compute costs at Amazon (Galaxy itself is always free!). https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Teach

Hope this advice helps! Jen, Galaxy team
