As you see, I update the 'galaxy.ini' file and create a local account, but I cannot find the 'Admin' button as described in the website. Did I miss something?

Did you restart the Galaxy server after changing the galaxy.ini?

sure. I did it several times

Any other possible reason? Cause I am sure that I changed the ini file and saved the changes and restart the server. And it didn't work.

just double checking: are you sure you are editing the right 'galaxy.ini' file? You can easily check it by modifying the 'brand'. change the line:

#brand = None

to something like:

brand = TEST

restart the server, and reload the web page....you should then see 'TEST' in the top left corner next to galaxy.

I guess that's the problem. Noting happened after I changed the 'brand'. The 'galaxy.ini' file did not exist right after installation. I just copied one 'galaxy.ini.sample' file in 'path to galaxy/config' folder, pasted it in the same folder, changed its file name to 'galaxy.ini' and then modified it.

do you have downloaded the galaxy code twice? and you start galaxy in one directory, and edit the 'galaxy.ini' in the other?

No, I did it in the same folder and there is only one 'galaxy.ini' file. After checking your comments, I download the whole galaxy again and install it in a totally different folder. Now I am able to change the brand or change the host address when run the server. Still, I don't see 'Admin' button. Where is it suppose to be?

....and you are sure there is no typo in the 'admin_users' line this time.

Yeah, it's exactly the right spelling... Anyway, I am able to see the admin interface now after restarting the workstation(without change anything in the galaxy folder!), though I encounter some other problems now. Life is full of bugs!

looks like the (old) web page was cached....nevertheless, I am glad it is working now.

Hello,

I have encountered the same problem. After changing #brand = None to brand = TEST, I can see TEST right next galaxy after sh run.sh.

Can you help me figure out what is wrong?

Thank you,

Ross

Did you log in? If you did, then the only advise I have is 'restart the computer' . Perhaps it will update some scripts and make things work

I actually worked it out. maybe by luck - I have registered in local galaxy as I have registered before and then loged in and it worked.
