Question: Cloud service choosing

Hi all, 

I've seen some of the implementations to make galaxy more useful and scalable such as cloudman and globus genomics, I wonder why they all choose amazon over microsoft azure cloud. 

Does anyone know? Is there any paper that addressed this problem before?

I think by the time Cloudman started (~2010) the AWS was strictly the #1 in the business so it was an obvious first target. Also Amazon provides strong incentives in form of grants (aws credits) for academic usage.
