Can someone give me a quick overview of what is needed to download and setup genomes on a local galaxy instance.

I have rsync'd the genomes that the Biostatistician requested, but it looks like I need to download some location files, etc. I see a lot on the Wiki pages, but am unclear on what exactly needs to be done.

Thanks for any help you can provide to make this a little more clear to me. Keep in mind I am an IT guy and not a Biostatistician.

Hello,

The easiest way is to use Data Managers. Find these in the Tool Shed http://usegalaxy.org/toolshed.

This wiki has guidelines for data set-up - both manual and using DMs. Rysnc is an option, but will take more manual config on your part. You may find that a combination of both methods fits your needs.

If there are indexes you need that do not have a DM yet, these could be created (using existing DMs as a model). Load into the Test Tool Shed first (http://testtoolshed.g2.bx.psu.edu/), if you wish to share - we always appreciate that! In the Test Tool Shed it can be reviewed, tuned, etc. from community feedback. Then promote to the Main Tool Shed once all is in place. The Admin hub in our wiki has detailed help for creating new tool repositories.

Hopefully this helps! Jen, Galaxy team
