I wanted to try generating heatmaps of gene expression using normalized counts file obtained using DESeq2 / featureCounts on my transcriptomics data.

While trying to run it on the browser (I use Galaxy on web), I got the following error : This visualization requires the '' tool. Please make sure it is installed.

Can someone shed some light on this? I tried to find what this error meant, but in vain.

Charts have been updated and moved to a new section of the GUI. Try using the Heatmap function under Visualize > Create visualization.

The public Galaxy server at is undergoing some updates over the next two weeks or so. Once done, I'll retest whether this is the option for Charts graphing (available per-dataset under the graph icon) is producing this type of error. If working at a different Galaxy server, you might want to contact the administrators to find out what the server/tool update status is.

Thanks! Jen, Galaxy team
