Hi,

I saw several recent posts that people have troubles to run Galaxy on local CentOS7.

I was wondering if it's a general tendency or just couple rare cases. I.e. did anybody ever run it succesfully locally on CentOS7? I'm going to install Galaxy on my local server so I'm thinking if I should get CentOS7 (some software wants it)  for it or if I should avoid CentOS7 as not compatible.

Thanks!

Hi Hena,

I have a production installation on CentOS 7. The few "problems" I encountered were related to selinux (audit2allow is your friend here) and not knowing that CentOS comes with a running firewall (firewall-cmd) by default. For the rest, no problems at all.

Good luck with your installation!

Cristian

I'm not aware of any general problems with CentOS7. Try it! :)

Sure. it would be nice for me to have CentOS7 and Galaxy together. But did you ever heard about successful cases of these two working together? (may be my impression is wrong but cases on this forum do not look like resolved)

Can you link to those unanswered questions? I can not think of any case that should prevent you from installing Galaxy on CentOS.

for example this one.

Can't get Galaxy to run on CentOS 7.0.1406 (Core)

my impression is that if due to some reason Galaxy did not get some eggs it would be challenging to get through. I.e. for example older posts say that "simplejson" is not required anymore while 5days ago post mentioned that it's necessary.

As stated in this thread, this was probably a connectivity issue.

Ok. Thanks. I'll try. I'll let you know if it went through.
