I am having my students use the RNAseq tutorial data from jeremy's post here:

https://usegalaxy.org/u/jeremy/p/galaxy-rna-seq-analysis-exercise

and after signing up for Galaxy the first thing they do is import the history from jeremy's tutorial into their own but many get "This site says... History could not be imported. Please contact a Galaxy administrator". They are using usegalaxy (Main). This has happened on Chrome, Safari and Firefox, and on Windows and Apple machines. I have had them clear their cookies and restart their browsers which fixes the problem only for some. One student had success after turning off ad blocker, but I run that without interference on my machine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Steve

Hello,

I tested this out and the import does seem to be delayed but it eventually loaded. I suspect that the server is busy with so many trying to import the same history at the same time.

Using Galaxy Main (http://usegalaxy.org) is not recommended for live classroom training. Setting up a cloud Galaxy is the preferred option for most. The server performance will be better. AWS offers grants for educational (to cover usage fees at Amazon). Galaxy itself is always free.

Thanks, Jen! There are about 230 students working on this exercise, but they have all week so are probably not all doing it simultaneously. I will look into the grants for classroom support, however. Thanks, Steve

TopHat now gives several of them "Unable to run job due to a misconfiguration of the Galaxy job running system. Please contact a site administrator." Wishing I had set up that local instance...

Tophat and a few other tools are problematic right now. Our administrator is sorting out the issue. Galaxy Main has been undergoing some configuration changes (as noted in the top banner) and this is probably contributing to at least some of the other issue encountered.

You can follow some of the other posts about Tophat problems to know when these jobs can be re-run. Having all 230 students complete Tophat (and certain other downstream RNA-seq tools, if included in the exercise) before Friday might not be possible. There will be a job backlog as everyone re-submits failed jobs. Your student's jobs will queue along with everyone else using the public server. It usually takes a day or so to resolve and fully process all submitted jobs.

Our apologies for the problems at this time. The server updates are important to complete and somewhat complicated.
