Question: Problem with can't allocate memory

After Map with BWA-MEM run successfully, it provides the following message "Generating BWA index with is algorithm [bwa_index] Pack FASTA... 45.22 sec [bwa_index] Construct BWT for the packed sequence... [bwt_pac2bwt] Failed to allocate 6274322529 bytes at bwtindex.c line 81: Cannot allocate memory", is this because the vm I'm using only has 3.5GB of memory?
And the next step says the bam file is truncated, does this say that the map step actually failed?
