Hi everybody!

I have a (possibly stupid) question about the behaviour of a local instance of Galaxy:

I have installed a local Galaxy instance in a virtual machine (VM), running on Ubuntu Server. The VM is command line only, so to shut down my Galaxy instance, I just Ctrl-C and restart it with 'sh run.sh'.

My question now is: What happens to a user's running jobs when I do that (hit Ctrl-C and shut down the Galaxy instance)? Do the jobs get cancelled or just paused and will resume when I start up Galaxy again? I don't want to try it out, since the job I've been running is running for 2 days now and I don't want to lose that progress. :D

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Hi Rokyo

The job will get killed resulting in a 'error' state (i.e. red history item). Depending on the actual tool, which was called by the galaxy server, it might 'survive' and finish - but I would not count on this.

Thank you for the answer! I'll leave it running, then. Windows will have to wait for its updates to be installed. :D

Is there any addon/configuration that would allow jobs to be paused when the Galaxy instance is shut down or restarted (for maintenance, updates, etc) and resumed after the Galaxy server becomes available again?

Otherwise, I'd rather reinstall my Galaxy instance on a bare-metal Linux because Windows will keep killing my jobs with its automated restarting after updates. ;)
