According to the Data Libraries documentation you can link to datasets as opposed to importing them. through a copy. I have a local galaxy installation. My primary goal is to not be required to import, since I have a datasets > 2GB.

I am an admin., but do not see any "add datasets to current folder from user directory" selection. This is supposedly enabled by setting user_library_import_dir in the config/galaxy.ini to a path accessible by the user that runs the Galaxy process, but I still do not see any selection such as this under "Shared Data" option.

I see Data Libraries under the admin tab, but do not see any feature which allows me to enter a custom path or even designate the path that I have placed in the configuration

Thank you as I am very interested in setting up a link rather than copying.

yes

I'm assuming on a local instance the reference to "public" are those users who have access to local datasets.

No, public is everybody who can reach the Galaxy instance.

Thank you for your quick reply! I found the options under admin...Data Libraries. But I may still have some configuration questions.
