Question: How to select first and last lines from a dataset

Dear community

I have a bed file of 28 million records, too big for Excel. Each record has a score. I succeeded in sorting the file on the score.I would like to extract and down load files representing the top 30,000 records and the bottom 30,000 records. I do not even know how to look at the bottom of the file.
