Hi,

We have a galaxy instance which we would like to update from v15.10 to the most current version.

Is there a best practice document for server upgrades? Can we go directly from 15.10 to 17.05 or do we need to update through intermediate version(s)?

Any help or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Directly upgrading from an original git checkout with a git update should be fine. New configuration options have been introduced, so be sure to review the intermediate release notes addressing admin changes and adjust/define new options as needed. Saving back a copy of your original config files (at a minimum) before doing the upgrade would be recommended in case some issue does come up.

Once Galaxy is upgraded next update your tools to the latest versions. Many now have conda dependency management plus bug/usage fixes and updates. These new tool versions work best in the latest release.

Hope this helps! Jen, Galaxy team
