Question: Personel Galaxy Instance in the cloud (Amazon Web Services)

Hello Galaxy Community,

Today I tried to create push my current instance in which I have been developing tools to the cloud, followed the cloudman tutorial.

After all of this I was unable to click the 'Access Galaxy' Button. It is not clickable. In addition my personal galaxy instance didn't seem to be anywhere on the filesystem in AWS.

Please let me know if there is something different you need to do from the cloudman tutorial to get your personal galaxy instance on the cloud.

Also, on AWS, it appeared that I had not instances running. Not sure if this tell you anything.

To launch a new one, the easiest way to do it is by visiting usegalaxy.org/cloudlaunch and providing your AWS access and secret keys. Then, after the instance and CloudMan starts, choose 'Galaxy' cluster type. After a few minutes, the 'Access Galaxy' button will become active and you will be able to access Galaxy.

If that does not get you running, please post back here and we'll figure it out.

Hi Enis,

So we have downloaded and installed a galaxy instance. We have created our own toolshed as well as deploying new tools. We want to put our instance into the cloud (not the usegalaxy.org instance). I followed the steps that you suggested, basically went to our galaxy url and appended "/cloudlaunch", created an amazon account and made a galaxy user with admin access (generating a key and secret key). Then plugged these into the url. Created the cluster name and pass. And then allowed galaxy to boot up (waited about 25 min) and access galaxy was not available (it was faded).

Sorry for being vague earlier. I hope you guys can help :)

OK, it sounds you're trying to build your own version of 'Galaxy on the Cloud' and that process is a bit more involved than just placing a copy of Galaxy on the cloud image.

Have you considered launching a default one from usegalaxy.org/cloudlaunch and customizing it and sharing: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2105/13/315

If that's not going to work for you, I'd suggest to take a look at this page https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/CloudMan/Building. I realize this documentation is still incomplete but I'll hopefully get to it before you get to the last step :)

This was going to be my next attempt :) I thought there would be different steps involved in deploying a personal instance.

Thanks though! I will use the usegalaxy instance and install from my toolshed! :)
