We learned today that all TACC-based systems, including usegalaxy.org (a.k.a. "main"), will be down for 25 hours starting at 7:00 AM CDT (Noon GMT) on Tuesday, July 18.

All systems are expected to be back online by 8:00 AM CDT (13:00 GMT) on Wednesday, July 19. Any jobs running at shutdown time will be aborted and will need to be manually restarted on Wednesday.

There are many other options for using Galaxy during this (or any) time. Other Public Servers and Galaxy Services are two easy options. You can also launch your own Galaxy in Docker, or on AWS and other cloud providers.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will let you know as soon as usegalaxy.org is back up.

TACC outage took a bit longer than expected but is now completed and we are in the process of returning Galaxy Main (http://usegalaxy.org) and Galaxy Test (http://test.galaxyproject.org) to full operational status. We now estimate that the servers will be back up in 2-3 hours as we are also performing a system upgrade/replacement during this time. Related Tweet. Bug reports do not need to be sent in for jobs that failed during the downtime.

Once back up, any terminated/failed jobs that were queued or in an execution state during the downtime should be rerun. In some cases, this may include upstream input uploaded datasets and/or jobs. Jobs rerun after the servers are back up, resulting in a failure, should first be reviewed for usage/data issues (as all failed jobs and their inputs should be) and any persistent issues can then be reported for feedback. Please be aware that many end-users will be re-running jobs and queue times may be longer than usual.

One important upgrade is that FTP Upload has now enabled FTPS. This method utilizes SLL/TSL for secure file transfer (note that FTPS is different from SFTP). In general, changes to your chosen FTP client are not necessary yet you may wish to modify the client to enforce FTPS transfer and verify certificate authentication. Some of you may have noticed that the servers are back online.

HOWEVER please note: The configuration changes are NOT yet complete and many jobs will fail (up to 50%). If you really want to try to run jobs while the servers are in this state, that is your choice, but errors should not be reported. We will post back when the servers are functioning properly and at that later time reruns started after the notice, with persistent failures, can be reported to aid with any lingering troubleshooting.

Galaxy Main and Test are ready to use!

Please note that the mapping tool RNASTAR is still problematic and should be avoided until we post an update. Errors with this specific tool do not need to be reported.
