HI I am running out of space in my Galaxy account, and cannot do any analysis on new data anymore. We are working on several different projects. I have deleted all the primary sequence data (Fastq) but still need many of BAM files I currently have. What is the best way to backup some of this data so I can easily retrieve it when I need it again? If I back up a history can I just store it and upload it later again. I did see the suggestion to check the backup on a local version of galaxy but I do not have easy access to that.

Are there any other options/solution you can suggest

Hello,

Moving to a cloud Galaxy seems like a good choice for you:

However, if you do decide to work at http://usegalaxy.org, backing up histories and carefully managing active datasets works for many.

You do not need to load downloaded histories into a local and/or cloud, that is just a way to double check that the extracted history is intact. That said, setting up a simple local on a personal computer takes just a few steps if all you want to do is load histories and review the contents. It is when tools are installed/executed that the setup is a bit more time consuming, yet that depends on how many tools are needed and the overall workload.

Best, Jen, Galaxy team
