Are you starting to work with RNA-Seq or ChIP-Seq and want to learn more about data analysis?

Well, here’s your opportunity!

Now in it’s 7th year, the UC Davis Bioinformatics Training Program is announcing a four-day workshop:

RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq Analysis with Galaxy, December 16-19, 2014.

It will be held on the UC Davis campus and will run from 9am to 5pm on the dates indicated. Attendance is limited to 24 participants in order to foster an effective learning environment and ensure sufficient one-on-one attention.

What will be covered? … This workshop will focus on the design and analysis of RNA-Seq for expression profiling, and ChIP-Seq to assess genomic DNA binding sites. We will use Illumina data for hands-on exercises, and perform analyses using the popular Galaxy platform (http://usegalaxy.org) running on the Amazon Cloud (http://aws.amazon.com/).

What will you learn? After the workshop, you will be prepared to work independently on basic RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq analyses.

Who should attend? … Prior workshop participants have included faculty, postdocs, grad students, staff, and industry researchers from UC and from around the globe.

What are the prerequisites? … There are no prerequisites other than familiarity with general biological concepts and an enthusiasm for learning bioinformatics data analysis.

What will I need to bring? … A laptop running Chrome or Firefox, with a recent version of Java installed.

Can I bring my own data? … Yes, you can! We will be providing small experimental datasets for use during the workshop, but you are welcome to work on your own data as well.

How much does it cost? … Course tuition is $1,200 for academic, government or non-profit participants and $1,500 for other participants. Amazon has kindly provided grants of $100 per participant for Amazon Web Services accounts. This will allow you to perform analyses during and after the course using Amazon’s resources, without purchasing your own high performance computing servers!

How do I register? … To register, click on the links above or go to training.bioinformatics.ucdavis.edu/. We accept credit cards, as well as UC Davis recharge accounts, for payment.  Registration fees include light breakfast, lunch, and snacks, but do not include dinner, lodging or parking fees.

Questions? … Please don’t hesitate to contact us:

We hope to see you in December!
