Hi, I have been trying to upload my RNA-seq data files (~20 Gb total) via FTP using my account in Galaxy. But I could not connect to the server. The following message showed up: *"Error: Critical error* *Error: Could not connect to server"* Could you suggest any idea to overcome this problem? Thank you so much Thanh * *

Hello Thanh, First, you will want to be sure that you are following the protocols outlined on our wiki here. There are two screencasts that have a demo of the process. http://wiki.galaxyproject.org/FTPUpload And second, double check that you are using the correct Galaxy server name main.g2.bx.psu.edu) and Galaxy credentials (same email and password that you use for your account on the public Main Galaxy instance). If by chance you created your account new during a specific time frame in May, you may need to update your password, since a specific FTP login problem may be a factor. Please see this notice for the details and remedy: http://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Main/Notices#May_29th_2013_FTP_login_res olution Please let us know if you continue to have problems after reviewing this info, Thanks! Hi Jen,

I am not able to connect to server in filezilla.

And I am seeing different window display compare to demo, without asking any credential.

When opening filezilla, it just ask for server address, port and administration password.

Hope you can point me in right direction.

Thanks,

naresh

This is somewhat old question and the FTP url is wrong. The correct one is usegalaxy.org
Try changing it.

Thanks,

Naresh

Try visiting ftp://usegalaxy.org/ in your browser. The FTP server works, I don't know filezilla though so I cannot be of much help.

Try disabling ssh (sftp).

ftp server  ( ftp://usegalaxy.org/) is working. I am working in windows system, so I believe cannot disable sftp.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

naresh

I installed FileZilla to test and it runs smoothly out of the box:

Hi Martin,

It seems I have download different version of filezilla from old link.

So I download filezilla from different source. And now it is working fine.

Thanks for all your input.

Always try downloading from trusted source. This is from filezilla (https://filezilla-project.org/) website:

As recently published on the avast! blog, modified versions of FileZilla tainted with malware are being distributed on some third-party websites.

Thanks Martin.

I will keep in mind. For safety reason I have installed from https://filezilla-project.org/ link.

Thanks

Hi Naresh, Glad all is working as expected now. I'd like to correct our documentation. FileZilla has indeed changed over time. I'll search in the wiki, but where did you find the older version link? Do you having time to quickly share the url? Thanks, Jen, Galaxy team
