Galaxy team, Where can I find information about the requirements for installing and running Galaxy on our campus. In particular, I'd like to know what type of computer or server I should purchase. Hi Kevin, The starting place for local install set up is: http://getgalaxy.org There is a lot of information to consider when first getting started and one solution does not fit all, so we started wiki of known hardware configurations, and are encouraging the development community to add in their solutions/usage: http://wiki.g2.bx.psu.edu/Admin/CapacityPlanning. Searching prior mailing list Q/A or asking a new question about how others are doing this is also a great option. Please see the galaxy-dev@bx.psu.edu mailing list (and consider subscribing). Posting this question there, with a bit more detail about how many users, the types of jobs/volume, and special considerations such as budget, security, etc. , will likely get you some feedback from others already running instances under similar conditions. http://wiki.g2.bx.psu.edu/Mailing%20Lists http://wiki.g2.bx.psu.edu/Support#Mailing_Lists You would also probably be interested in joining the GalaxyCzars group that is just getting started. More information is on our wiki: http://wiki.g2.bx.psu.edu/Community/GalaxyCzars Hopefully this information will connect you with the right resources to help set up and maintain your new instance, Best, Jen Galaxy team -- Jennifer Jackson http://galaxyproject.org

Hi Jennifer, there seems to be no (public) mailing for Galaxy admins - where should such questions go? The public dev mailing list? We're also looking into setting up Galaxy at our institution, but my questions revolve mostly around manpower.

The galaxy-dev@lists.galaxyproject.org is one way to reach other admins. So is the IRC #galaxyproject channel (for quick Qs).

When the reply above was written (in the long long ago!), GalaxyCzars was just getting started. The group is called Galaxy Admins now. The focus is for those running public Galaxy servers and the issues they encounter as a group. There is no specific email/IRC for it - the dev list and IRC are enough. Meetups noted here: https://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Community/GalaxyAdmins.

Thanks! Jen, Galaxy team
