I have a local installation of galaxy. I designated that my job "auto-detect metadata." The job has been running for several days (yellow highlight with wheels turning) without completion. There is another posting "Metadata Is Being Auto-Detected Stuck In Continuous Loop" which describes my same experience, but there is no responses for that question.

Are there specific times where processing does not complete if you request the metadata to be auto-detected? Also, if you have a local instance running is there any way to view the progress of the job?

Thank you.

Hello,

Your problem is likely related to these open issues. Please feel free to comment at Github for current status on when the changes will be implemented:

To workaround the problem: First, make sure that you are running the latest version of Galaxy 17.09. Next, review the content of your datasets against those known to produce this problem (described in the tickets above). Then, do one of these:

  • Directly assign the datatype - either during Upload or on the Edit Attributes forms > Datatype tab. If your dataset is just very large (rows of data), this is the solution.
  • Modify the dataset content to contain fewer columns of data (if this fits with your analysis goals).

The prior question (https://biostar.usegalaxy.org/p/5553/) is from 5 years ago. It was imported from an older mailing list we used before this site was created. Sometimes the answers were not always posted back or ended up threaded in an odd way. Asking a new question was the right way to get help!

Thanks, Jen, Galaxy team
