Hi,

I am trying to upload BAM files from an external hard drive on to galaxy, but it is very slow. The files are around 300 MB and are taking about an hour each. Last week I uploaded fastq files with no problems.

Has anyone got any advice or suggestions?

Thanks

Hello,

If working at https://usegalaxy.org and using the Upload tools, the server might just be busier today than it was last week. Try using FTP instead. This will go faster than a browser upload anyway. https://galaxyproject.org/ftp-upload/

There could also be some other network/internet factor on your end. Maybe run a speedtest to see what your up/down is right now. Then keep track of that and compare later when things seem to be loading faster/slower. When interacting with Galaxy or any other external sites.

All this assumes that you were loading data the same exact way both times. If you were loading data that was already on your computer and comparing that to loading data on a hard drive connected to your computer, that could go slower for a few technical reasons, but none have to do with Galaxy itself (the rate limit here would be upstream of Galaxy - possibly the speed of the transfer between your external disk and your computer).

Thanks! Jen, Galaxy team
